Jennifer Lopez tells Miami audience she’s pregnant

Thank you Jennifer Lopez for confirming the obvious, but it is still fantastic that the singer-actress-dancer announced to a live audience that the bump sightings across the country were indeed founded.

“Marc and I are expecting a baby,” she said in front of thousands of people in the couple’s hometown performance in Miami Wednesday night. The pair, until that performance, had been touring the country in support of their solo projects (Lopez’s “Do it Well” landed on SheKnows’ Ear Candy a few weeks ago.) continually denying any pregnancy.

The news is less surprising than say if Kate Middleton announced she was pregnant with Prince William’s baby. Still, it seems that fans of the singer are already expressing their joy evidenced by the prolonged applause after Lopez’s on stage comments.

Anthony, also on stage at the time, stood next to her smiling proudly. J. Lo was beaming as the crowd’s monstrous cheers reflected the couple’s glow in what was a particularly elongated salute. Anthony then leaned over and kissed her belly.

Lopez then told the audience that the wait on the confirmation of the baby bump watch was because she wanted to share it with the audience on the couple’s final performance of the tour. Hello, Miami!

Long-awaited Oasis DVD lands in stores today

The brothers Gallagher are nothing if a fascinating pair to watch trudge through the maze that is rock n’ roll. So to see the pair in the film format is truly a thrill for anyone who even remotely considers themselves a fan of Oasis.

Oasis is releasing the film Lord, Don’t Slow Me Down in stores internationally capturing the mayhem that is the life of the band. The film follows the band spanning the globe on a year long tour. Notorious for being at each other’s throats while creating musical masterpieces, the Gallagher boys show remarkable access by allowing a filming crew for an entire year.

The two-disc set features first, the full length film, with commentary by Liam, Noel, Andy and Gem providing invaluable insight into what makes their magic work. Also look for a Noel interview along with the always enjoyable DVD outtakes.

The bonus disc is pure Oasis on their native grounds. The Manchester Stadium in England rocks as the boys jam through 16 tracks captured for this exclusive addition to “Lord, Don’t Slow Me Down.”

Here’s the title track serving as a nice sneak peak to the entire DVD package.

Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe top box office bees

The gangster may have beaten the bee, but the animated insect was hardly crushed at the weekend’s cineplexes.

Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe in their second teaming together, proved to be the box office gold you would expect from two Oscar winners. American Gangster, the pair’s teaming with director Ridley Scott, broke numerous box office records over the weekend with its commanding $43.5 million in ticket sales.

Just behind the true story is Jerry Seinfeld’s first foray into filmmaking, Bee Movie. That film from the animated wing of DreamWorks did astoundingly well. Earning $38 million in its opening week, released against any other film staring Washington and Crowe, Seinfeld would be adding number one film to his resume of topping television.

Halloween week’s top film, the slasher Saw IV predictably fell to third place, still maintaining a respectable pull on audiences with $11 million. America’s favorite comedic actor effortlessly moving between screens small and large, Steve Carell continued his solid showing with Dan in Real Life adding another $8.1 million to its coffer after two weeks of release.

Another cinematic newbie, John Cusack’s Martian Child continued the beloved actor’s streak of so-so box office performances, landing in seventh place of the nation’s most popular films for the first week of November.

The Washington-Crowe crime saga broke one record in particular that stands out — the one for a film possessing an ‘R’ rating. No other film in history with that adult labeled pedigree has ever sold more popcorn.

Hollywood writers walk the line

In the end it came down to the little thing called the internet. The amount of money network television is earning from their own websites and download sites such as iTunes and Amazon is at the center of the reason the Writer’s Guild of America walked off the job Monday morning failing to reach a contract.

Hope the reality show format is a favorite because immediately, live television will go dark. Secondly, scripted television’s outing will be varied, the strike was thought to be coming to many studios. Many have projects filmed, for some as long as six to eight weeks. But if the strike stretches after New Year’s, watch for television as we know it to grind to a halt.

There’s always Blind Date reruns and Kiefer Sutherland doesn’t have to worry about turning the shooting schedule for 24 upside down to go to jail.

Ear Candy is in love and Too Young to Fight It

Young Love is such bliss. Remember the pangs of desire that were unattainable no matter how much time was spent in the source’s company? New York City’s Young Love has released a single that finds them on SheKnows’ Ear Candy for this week burning the inside of our musical passion: “Too Young to Fight It”

Dan Keyes’ band combines elements of musical genres far and wide inside his three minutes of music munchies. This week’s Ear Candy plays to the heart of classic candy for the ear—a driving beat, looping chorus and a bridge- but with this track it is only the foundation.

What’s not to love about Young Love and their anthem to falling in love regardless of the consequences? Beginning with its pounding snare drum opening, “Too Young to Fight It” is clearly a product of New York’s rich musical history. From the Ramones to Run D.M.C., Manhattan’s musical stamp is all over Young Love’s latest.

Most songs involve the simplest of structure, an ‘A’ that serves as the verse or chorus, then a different chord progression that produces the ‘B’ – the payoff for a listener - the section of song that serves is pleasantly relentless on your mind. Beyond that standard set up, few songs in pop music’s history push the envelope. Drifting into Beatles territory of songwriting are artists who add a ‘C’, or the intensely creative find a ‘D’ that still maintains a seamless flow to the ear. What Keyes composed is a song that flawlessly changes at every turn.

With its haunting calls to ‘sleep it off,’ it appears Young Love is asking for the impossible. No amount of rest will result in this track exiting from the conscious or subconscious. All there is after inhaling the song is the desire for the listener to explore it further.

Cate Blanchett expecting her own little royal

In the end it become to difficult to conceal - note to J. Lo, admit it already – actress Cate Blanchett is pregnant. The star of Elizabeth has been crossing the globe promoting the film and as rumors have swirled about her expectedness, she has until now, denied the entire idea.

The Oscar winner and her husband, playwright Andrew Upton announced last night at the star’s Sydney hometown premiere for the Elizabethan film.

“Yes, yes, we’re expecting a baby in April, which is very exciting,” Blanchett told a sea of reporters screaming questions at her on the red carpet.

The news is glorious for the Australian couple who will begin their tenure as creative directors of an Australian theater company in January. Sounds wonderful, being around family and friends, raising young children and working at the craft that both the actress and her husband share—a passion for the theater.

Congratulations!

Shia LaBeouf arrested in Chicago drug store

After finally watching Disturbia and seeing what all the fuss what as about with the star-making turn of its star, Shia LaBeouf, imagine the surprise when the headlines Sunday morning seem to find life imitating art. LaBeouf was arrested Saturday for trespassing at a Walgreens Drug Store in Chicago.

The man has been quoted all summer talking about being the anti-Paris and Nicole legally and how working with Stephen Spielberg on the new Indiana Jones movie has only heartened his commitment to maintaining a squeaky clean image. I guess that’s why he was at the Walgreens refusing to leave at 2:25 a.m. Saturday night arguing with security. When he was asked to exit the premises, he refused and security called the cops.

Shooting a film in Chicago, the actor has had no comment as of yet for his indiscretion, but those words of him wanting to by a model citizen for his Tom Hanks-like image must be ringing in his head. “Perception sometimes is more important than performance,” LaBouf said in June.
