Believe it or not, but Britney has critics smiling. This is not a hallucination, the tabloid darling’s latest CD arrives tomorrow and the reviews from publications across the spectrum have been nothing if exceptionally positive. “Blackout” is certainly an ironic title for the person who wouldn’t know a media blackout if it came wrapped in a bow.
With her single “Gimme More” raging at the nation’s clubs, the rest of the album is much of the same beat-driven music that she has become famous for creating. With no ballad in sight, the rest of the album is pure dance that finds the pop princess working with some of the genre’s top producers—even if she spurned Timbaland.
The music critics of the world seem to be suddenly reminded that at the end of the day this center of controversy is at heart a pretty good entertainer. Try listening to “Baby, One More Time,” “Toxic,” or for that matter “Crazy,” without moving something to the beat. Let this be a media alert: Britney’s back and it looks like her talent for crafting hits has not abided as her problems have engulfed her persona.
Now the music buyers of the world will have the final say. Will “Blackout” be a breakout?
